What to look for in an AI receptionist in Australia
Onshore processing, AI disclosure, and booking into the system you already pay for. Published 2026-08-29, updated 2026-10-10.

Most Australian AI receptionist pages lead with 24/7 coverage and an accent. Coverage is useful. It is also what every vendor claims. The test that matters for a trade, clinic or firm is whether the call becomes a job, appointment or matter in the system you already pay for, before the caller hangs up.
Start with processing location. Ask where speech is processed by default: AWS Sydney and Australian endpoints, or a US API behind a .com.au landing page. TensifyX runs voice processing and storage onshore in AWS Sydney. That is how the product is built, not a badge on a feature grid.
Then ask whether callers are told they are speaking with AI. TensifyX says so at the start of every call. Warm transfer includes the conversation so far, so a human does not make the caller repeat themselves. Automated decision-making (routing, booking, confirmations) is disclosed because those actions affect people.
Then ask where the booking lands. Message-taking still leaves you re-keying suburb, urgency and access notes. The useful product is write-back into ServiceM8, Simpro, Cliniko, Nookal or LEAP, plus calendars, SMS and email that are live today. Other systems sit in a public directory and are sequenced by demand.
Price is the last filter that should be first. If you have to book a sales call to see the number, you are shopping the same way as every other demo-gated vendor. TensifyX publishes Lite at $49 + GST/month for 100 minutes of agent call time, Essential at $99 + GST for 300 minutes, Growth at $249 + GST for 1,000 minutes and Business at $499 + GST for 2,500 minutes, with no setup fee and no lock-in. Annual billing is 15% off. First 15 days free.
Setup takes under 10 minutes and you do it yourself in the portal. You keep your existing number and telco. Forwarding is reversible from your phone. You can watch a one-minute example call without a signup, then look at the same prices on the pricing page.
Compare that with voicemail (free, books nothing), an answering service ($200 to $600 a month, still a message) and a full-time receptionist (typically $60,000 a year loaded, weekdays only). The missed call cost calculator works it out from your own numbers.
If you run a stack we have not connected yet, tell us. The directory ends with a “Not listed?” tile for that reason. Sequencing by demand is slower than claiming thousands of apps. It is also how you avoid a surprise in week one of onboarding.
TensifyX is run by Tensify Pty Ltd (ABN 74 701 453 170), based in Sydney, NSW. Email hello@tensifyx.com.au. First 15 days free. No card needed, and nothing is charged unless you choose a plan.
